EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Eskimos picked up some depth at running back Wednesday, acquiring Hugh Charles from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a conditional pick in the 2014 Canadian college draft.
Charles played in six games with the Riders in 2011, registering 38 carries for 242 yards and one touchdown. He added 15 receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
The Colorado product also saw time on special teams, returning 14 kickoffs for 296 yards and four punts for 65 yards.
Charles originally signed with the Riders in September 2008 and appeared in 20 games over the last four seasons with Saskatchewan.
"We're very happy to add Hugh Charles,'' Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed said in release. "He's an explosive back with big play potential and will be an ideal compliment to Jerome Messam and Calvin McCarty.''
